Today I got really into cooking and baking. I have about 12 or so recipes I really want to try.
I made chocolate chip muffins for breakfast, they turned out great! I loved the richness of them. The texture was a little rough but I enjoyed it anyway.
I've been eating SO many smoothies. Most of the time I'll add either kale or chia seeds, but sometimes I'm just in the mood for a smooth, sweet, fruit smoothie. I'm still getting the hang of how much of what to put in them, so I accidentally made four smoothies instead of one today because I kept adding things.
I'm enjoying this a lot. I have a whole bunch of supplies for the next 30 days like cashews, almond butter, honey, coconut oil, different flours, fruits and vegetables, fish fillets, lots of poultry, and a whole bunch of other things.

Day One
Last night I had the urge to do something to improve my health.
I have a nasty infection on my leg, and I have tried very hard to stay away from antibiotics for a number of reasons. I texted my friend for advice, as the infection was getting worse and I was torn on whether to take the medication or not. She said to me this:
"Its not like your'e a raw vegan who avoids every unnatural thing, you probably put things in your body that are equally as bad as an antibiotic."
I thought about it for a while and it made sense. Why was I so against birth control, antibiotics, and other pharmaceuticals when I snacked on fruit loops and chocolate ice cream? I'm such a big advocate for letting your body heal itself and using natural products, yet I put things in my body that are unnatural and unhealthy every day.
I started thinking about different lifestyles I had heard of: raw vegan, fruitarian, high carb low fat, high protein low carb, vegetarian, gluten free, dairy free, the list goes on and on. Then I thought of the paleo lifestyle. The first thing that came to mind when I thought about it was meat. I already have eliminated red meat from my diet for years, so the idea didn't seem like a good one for me. Then, I bought a book, Practical Paleo: A Customized Approach to Health and a Whole Foods Lifestyle.
I read the entire thing in one night. I was up until 4 AM reading this book. I realized a number of important things while reading:
1. Being paleo is NOT about eating meat, meat, and more meat. It is a balanced diet of tubulars, nuts, fruits, vegetables, fats, and some meats.
2. A whole foods lifestyle can improve your health drastically, if you approach it correctly.
3. Being paleo is not an extremest diet. It is simply about eliminating dairy, gluten, and anything that comes from a box or package.
I was super inspired to give this a shot. So, i'm going to do this for 30 days.
Today was day one. I woke up and ate a peach, then I made myself a smoothie (acai super packet, a banana, frozen strawberries, almond milk, chia seeds)
I have already failed at being strictly paleo for a two reasons:
1. My almond milk had preservatives in it
2. The acai super food packet had cane sugar in it
In my defense, I haven't had the opportunity to go shopping yet, so I did the best I could with the ingredients I had. I think I did an ok job. Now I need to go grocery shopping and figure out what is for lunch and dinner tonight! I'm thinking some grilled vegetables and chicken for lunch.
